Climate change is affecting us all!

We have caused this global issue, so we need to stop it. Sometimes we don't realize it until one day when the coastline cities are flooded, arctic animals and plants are GONE. We as humans need to step up and take charge so climate change doesn't take over the world. We need to educate people all over the world about the effects of their actions on the planet. Also so they can take a stand and try to change their daily lives and routines to help this global issue. Climate change is something that will our future generations if we don't try and change it quick before its too late! Have you ever wondered why arctic glaciers are melting, sea level is rising, oceans are getting warmer? It's all because of us, humans. We are killing so many plants, animals and our silly actions that we don't even realize are hurting our planet.

What are greenhouse gases?
Greenhouse gases are gases that are released into the air when we burn fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are burned when we drive our cars, factories and electricity.

What role do they play in climate change?
Greenhouse gases are playing a role in climate change because the greenhouse gases form a layer a round the earth, which stops the heat from escaping the planet. Which cause the temperature on earth to rise. The climate all over the world is getting warmer every day. When the climate gets warmer that's when global warming starts happening.

Why is this affecting our planet?
This is affecting our planet because lots of people, plants and animals are suffering. In the arctic when the temperature gets warmer glaciers start to melt. Did you know 10% of arctic ice has melted over the last 25 years. Which affects polar bears, penguins and other arctic animals because they won't have a place to live. Climate change also affects the probability of natural disasters. It increase the chances for floods because the sea level is rising with all of the glaciers melting which cause flooding for coastline cities. Also climate change causes more and heavier rainfall. It also increases the chances for heat waves and droughts where some people have a shortage of water and food. 262 million people died from climate change related disasters in 2004. Climate change also affects animals and people because in the arctic the animals who live there need a cold climate and when the climate becomes warm animals will die because they won't be able to survive. This will also affect people because the people who live in the arctic can't grow food so they rely on the animals as a food source and when the animals die so will some people. Another reason why it will affect people is for farmers because if the climate gets warmer they won't be able to grow their crops because they will die when it is too warm.

Why has Canada's gas emission risen while other countries have decreased?
Did you know 2% of the worlds greenhouse gases are from Canada. This is because as a nation we haven't done much to try and decrease our greenhouse gas emissions. While other countries were working hard to raise awareness and to decrease the amount of greenhouse gas emissions we let ours rise by 25%. I also think it is because we have a growing population and a growing economy. Other countries have been able to decrease the greenhouse gas emissions because some of them don't have as many factories or people that are driving cars, buses and trucks. As a nation we haven't focused much on helping this global issue. We need to try our best to help as a country decrease our greenhouse gas emissions.

What can I do?

Individually
• Walk as much as we can because cars emit 28% of our greenhouse gases
• Use less aerosols such as hairsprays because there are gases inside the can that when the product is spray those gases go into the air

Families
• Buy local produce because it requires the burning of fossil fuels to transport the good from another country to your supermarket
• Use appliances such as heater, dryers and fridges as little as we can
• Change daily rountines
• Recycle becuase gases are emitted hen you burn waste

Nation
• Inform people on the impacts of climate change and greenhouse gases so that will influence them to try and help
• Make laws on how much waste you can throw out per week

YOU NEED TO BE THE CHANGE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN THIS WORLD!!
